pureodm is just like an ORM, but since MongoDB is a NoSQL database and works with documents instead of data table relations, the title changes to a ODM (object-document mapper).

pureodm acts like a layer between Python code and MongoDB SQL queries.

This allows developers to write Python syntax which then gets converted and interpreted as a native SQL syntax in MongoDB.

This reduces development time, by allowing a programmer to not know SQL and MongoDB specific syntax, and yet still use the database as his main data storage environment.
